Firmware Update v1.40/v4.20 for Pioneer DVR-104 (CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive)

This program will update Firmware on the following VAIO Desktop models running Windows XP:

PCV-RX203
PCV-RX305

PCV-RX306

PCV-RXG408

PCV-RX407

PCV-RX406

PCV-RX404

PCV-RX417

PCV-RS144
PCV-RS122

PCV-RS114

PCV-RS104

PCV-RS102

PCV-RS123

PCV-RS142

This Firmware update (v1.40/v4.20) will solve following problems :

- Writing quality of DVD-R/RW is improved.

- Writing quality of CD-R/RW is improved.

- Support 2x speed writing on a High Speed DVD-R(4x) media.

- Support 2x speed writing on a Sony's DVD-R media.

- Writing to DVD-R/RW is not possible using "RecordNow DX 4.61".

IMPORTANT NOTES: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Do not shutdown  the unit while the Firmware update procedure is in progress.

Do not stop the Firmware update procedure while in progress.

Not following any of the above, could severely damage your system !!

A. Download the Upgrade :

1. Double click on "DVR104VA_VAM.zip". 

2. Select a folder, where this file will be saved to, for example C:\Download\

3. Click to "Save".

B. Extract all files to the hard disk :

1. Go to the folder where the file "DVR104VA_VAM.zip" has been saved.

2. Right click on the file "DVR104VA_VAM.zip".

3. Select "Extract All...

4. The Extraction Wizard window will appear. Click Next to continue.

4. Click Next to continue.

5. Make sure the sentence "Show extracted files" is flagged. Click Finish.

6. A window will appear showing the extracted files.

C. Checking current firmware version :

1. Go to Start. 

2. Go to All Programs.

3. Select VERITAS Software.

4. Select RecordNow DX.

5. Select RecordNow DX. This will open the application.

6. Select the correct drive : Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104.

7. Right Click and select "Disc Explorer and Drive Properties .. F4".

8. In the window shown you can find the current firmware version.

In case current firmware version is 1.xx, please proceed with point D.

In case current firmware version is 4.xx, please proceed with point E.

D. Upgrade instructions (In case Firmware version is 1.xx)

1. Open the Windows Explorer and go to  the following folder: C:\Download\DVR104VA_VAM\DVR104VA_VAM FW140\.

2. Double Click the file "UPGDVD.exe".

3. A screen will appear : 1 target device(s) is found. Do you want to upgrade all drives ?

4. Click the Yes button. This will start the upgrade process.

5. Please do not turn off the PC until the upgrade is completed.

6. When the process ends, a screen will appear : Upgrade operation is completed.

7. Click the OK button to finish.

8. Restart your computer manually.

E. Upgrade instructions (In case Firmware version is 4.xx)

1. Open the Windows Explorer and go to  the following folder: C:\Download\DVR104VA_VAM\DVR104VA_VAM FW420\.

2. Double Click the file "UPGDVD.exe".

3. A screen will appear : 1 target device(s) is found. Do you want to upgrade all drives ?

4. Click the Yes button. This will start the upgrade process.

5. Please do not turn off the PC until the upgrade is completed.

6. When the process ends, a screen will appear : Upgrade operation is completed.

7. Click the OK button to finish.

8. Restart your computer manually.
